Miia Mäkinen is a visual artist (MA) who works and lives in Rovaniemi. Her artworks reflect on Arctic nature, fauna, and people in a dreamlike style. As an artist, she is interested in taking a stand and the desire to participate in social conversation through the means of art. Mäkinen is interested in bringing traditional soft craft skills to contemporary art. Social, cultural, and ecological sustainability form the value base for her work. Mäkinen has held and organized solo and group exhibitions over the years. She has made community art, participatory art, street art, environmental art, and place-related art. In winter, Mäkinen makes snow and ice art whenever possible.
